Who are we?
In 1986, the Schriesheim quarry was closed because no one was taking uniform care of the safety of the area. This decision left a gap in the sport of climbing that urgently needed to be filled. To meet this challenge, our working group was founded as an association of several DAV sections.
Thanks to our commitment, we were able to reopen the quarry to climbers under strict conditions. Since then, we have taken on responsibility for creating and maintaining the sport of climbing in the Odenwald region. As an official contractual partner for the municipalities, we play a crucial role in ensuring that the climbing areas can remain open.
Our work has not only helped to revive a popular climbing destination, but also to ensure the safety and sustainability of the sport in the region. We are proud to play an active role in promoting the sport of climbing and making the natural beauty of the Odenwald accessible to the public.
Some of our activites

We enter into contracts with municipalities and the state so that climbing areas can remain open.

Environmentalism
We must also ensure that local nature conservation rules are observed.

For a climbing area to be open, there must be an organization that takes care of and manages the area.
In the Odenwald that’s us!
We enter into contracts with the communities to enable you to climb. This often involves a lot of effort, which you cannot see on a day trip to the quarry.
We also ensure that climbing hooks and approaches are safe and modernized.
Alpine club through and through!
We are a working group of the DAV. A total of 11 DAV sections from the Odenwald are part of our working group.
These DAV sections are part of our working group:

Warning!
In recent years, there have been efforts made by conservationists, local authorities and the state government against climbing in nature. Some climbing areas have been closed and in the Odenwald there have often been talks of closing our climbing areas.
It is therefore incredibly important that you all follow the rules in the climbing areas (even if they sometimes seem pointless). This is especially true for the access to the Schriesheim quarry. Every time someone does not use the via ferratas and climbs illegally via hiking trails, it is another argument for conservationists who want to close the quarry permanently. This also makes our work in negotiating contract extensions more and more difficult.
If this situation does not change soon, the quarry may soon be closed permanently!!!
